Automate your academic promotions process

Gieger-P automates your academic promotions to save a lot of time. How? First, we accurately map your existing promotions process and documentation. Second, we configure Geiger-P to follow your promotions workflow and incorporate your terminology, documentation and guidance if required. Third, academics make applications for promotion through Geiger-P’s web/intranet interface. Fourth, committee/panel administrators easily print, or circulate (pdf), committee packs using Geiger-P’s committee administration dashboard (which collates the papers).


  • Comfortable user interface: Geiger-P is viewed through a browser using existing university log on details. It can be viewed through an intranet and remotely. ‘User profiles’ determine levels of access and preserve confidentiality.
  • Documents in one, secure place: documentation is uploaded into into simple screens. There are screens for applicants, referees, library (h-index or other measures), registry (NSS Scores), line management (support statements), HR Managers, Faculty Management, committee secretariat and external assessors. That means all of the information is stored in a single database and is easy to sort into committee packs.
  • Monitoring: the central HR dashboard provides oversight of applications and their progress. Dashboards can also be created for local HR to keep track of devolved processes.
  • Reporting: reporting is easy because the data is in one place. We have a standard report but can design an extensive report if required.
  • Candidate feedback: because feedback to ‘rejected’ applicants/nominees is recorded in Geiger-P there is a very rich sources of HR data which can be used to refine academic development programmes.
  • Cultural fit: Geiger-P adopts your organisational design (e.g. number of schools), job families and hierarchies (e.g. Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Reader, Associate Professor, Professor, etc), job families (research, teaching, combinations) and terminology (e.g ‘Academic Promotions Committee’).
  • Relaxed Committee administration: Geiger-P sorts applications by any defined order to create committee packs. A couple of clicks and a committee pack is ready as a pdf for email circulation or for printing.
  • User guidance: guidance is embedded into the pages for the best possible user experience. Guidance on the standards which must be met can also be included.
  • Geiger-P (Advanced): Geiger-P (Advanced) includes a simple questionnaire which measures the attitidues of academics towards their readiness for promotion. This provides valuable insight, especially into equalities issues. (See Reporting)
  • Geiger-P(R) automates applications for supplementary pay or any other form of reward for excellence which is evidenced (e.g. professorial banding applications).
  • Timetables and automated emails: deadlines entered into Geiger-P aid project management and set trigger dates for sending reminders emails.
  • User profiles and confidentiality: every stakeholder has a user profiles to ensure that they only see data relevant to their task (e.g. a librarian can only a list of academics requiring an h-index cross check, and an applicant can only see their own application, its status and personal feedback). Geiger-P follows each university’s GDPR compliance. Data is stored on each university’s local servers and there is no installation of software onto desktops.
